According to The Gifts of Change, the most ordinary of daily events can lead to a better understanding of oneself and inspire a new life perspective - the “gift” that comes with the change. The book asks three questions: Do you keep the promises you make to yourself? Do you have memories that nourish you and feed your soul? Do you really know yourself, what you’re capable of doing, all the people you are capable of being? In sharing her own answers as well as those of people she has interviewed, Nancy Christie offers readers a chance to evaluate and welcome change in their lives as a tool for growth. Individual chapters cover such topics as The Pantry of the Soul (stocking up for future needs); Yoga Stork Pose (keeping our focus); The Mouth of the Tiger (leaving the comfort zone); and The Danger of “Excessive Obligations” (refusing unearned debts).More Information

In the climate of self-improvement that pervades our culture, there is an overwhelming amount of information about treatments for everything from alcohol abuse to sexual dysfunction. Much of this information is exaggerated if not wholly inaccurate. As a result, people who try to change their own troubling conditions often experience the frustration of mixed success, success followed by a relapse, or outright failure.
To address this confusion, Martin Seligman has meticulously analyzed the most authoritative scientific research on treatments for alcoholism, anxiety, weight loss, anger, depression, and a range of phobias and obsessions to discover what is the most effective way to address each condition. He frankly reports what does not work, and pinpoints the techniques and therapies that work best for each condition, discussing why they work and how you can use them to make long lasting change. Inside you’ll discover the four natural healing factors for recovering from alcoholism; the vital difference between overeating and being overweight; the four therapies that work for depression, the pros and cons of anger–and much more.
Wise, direct, and very useful, What You Can Change and What You Can’t will help anyone who seeks to change.

Positive thinking produces a positive attitude and should be used with the boss, workplace colleagues and virtually everybody involved with the company’s products or services. A positive attitude is especially called for when things don’t go right and that happens in every job on occasion. Whining, complaining and throwing one’s hands up are indications of negative thinking and are unproductive. Instead a positive solutions orientation will be instrumental in overcoming problems.
Men and women just starting out on a career path will always be subject to assignments where they don’t feel secure in their knowledge or experience. The negative thinker responds with ” Oh No! This is way beyond me. I can’t do it.” Conversely, the positive thinker tells himself or herself ” Well, this is a challenge. I don’t really understand it yet, but I will fill in the gaps and move ahead.” They then seek counsel from more experienced colleagues or do the fact-finding research necessary to understand and implement the assignment. It’s all just a matter of attitude!
This is where the all important self-talk comes into the picture. Positive thinking requires that you always use words like “I can”, “I will” and I’m ready” in lieu of giving yourself all the reasons why you can’t. Perhaps equally important, always remember that when you are positive and have that aura about you in business, it is readily apparent to the people you work with and especially to your supervisor. Upward mobility (success) comes much more readily to the employee that is positive than it ever does to the negative thinker.
There is a lot of help available to guide your efforts to become an effective positive thinker. A check on the Internet will produce many successful instructional and motivational programs on the subject that are offered from professionals with long experience in the subject. Some of this information is offered free while others are available in the form of nominally-priced audio programs on CD or via video. There are also many e-books to be found that cover the subject of positive thinking for business success very thoroughly.

There is one obvious danger related to positive thinking, that being kidding yourself into thinking everything is okay when it is anything but okay. There are, of course, certain obviously-negative situations that must be faced up to and dealt with whether you like it or not. The key here, is not to let one bad circumstance cloud your vision and optimism about other future issues. Then too, most bad things can still be responded to with a positive, problem-solving approach best achieved by thinking through the problem and the options available to solve it. That is a positive thinking approach applied to a negative issue.
In general, if you approach life with positive direction, the best way to confront any problem is to ask yourself: What do I want to accomplish?; what solutions are possible under the circumstances?; and what solution is the most practical for me?. This kind of self talk or self questioning almost always leads to the right answer.
Most critics of positive thinking believe it is self-delusional and they can be right in some situations. If you embrace positive thinking improperly, and refuse to face facts that are plainly before you, that is either deluding yourself or being in a state psychologists call denial. Neither is a good thing. You can be a positive thinker and still be a realist at the same time. Positive thinking is a way of looking at things, but not always necessary as a solution.
Critics also sometimes say that positive thinking takes away your awareness, self trust and intelligence. Not if you don’t let it. All those personal assets can be applied in a positive way and to great advantage. Just because you have a positive attitude certainly doesn’t mean you won’t trust your own intelligence and good sense in analyzing a problem.
All this being said, the pitfalls aren’t the result of positive thinking per se. Instead they are really the result of not applying the ground rules of positive thinking properly in some situations.
Well excess of anything may be dangerous but you still must be positive to face any kind of situation in life.
You should get excited about working, and not feel that it’s just another thing you HAVE to do but you would be surprised at the number of people who choose a business that looks great but in reality isn’t something they really care about.
These people will get tired and lose interest very fast, because they have no passion to keep them going in the times where the need it their career. If you dislike you work then devise ways to change the focus of your business to suit your needs or perhaps morph it completely.
If inspiration is lacking people will have no motivation to better themselves.
Setting Aims - Setting goals is important for any business owner or individual and if you don’t make goals then you’ll lack purpose on which path of self improvement to take. Set aside some time to put your goals in writing and even though a plan may sound daunting, it is really nothing more than aims, plans, implementation and a budget. Record your business plan and keep it current every year.
Write down small goals that can be done in mere hours days or weeks as well as the more ambitious ‘grand-goals’ that may take years to complete then look back at the plan at points during the year.
The advent of a business plan can truly keep you motivated as written goals will make you feel more professional and let you feel that you have a better connection with your business. It will also make it so from having to reinvent your business goals every time the sun rises.
Networking - Another critical part of staying motivated is connecting to other business owners because when a number of people begin working together, the challenges will just be there waiting to be conquered. Actually, having to work along is of one the most difficult parts of being an entrepreneur because being able to have support from others makes it so much easier.
Make it easier on yourself be meeting others in your community because even when businesses are not related, you will often find common ground and ways with which you might work together. Many successful entrepreneurs have reported that connecting with the right group, be it a brick and mortar business or online, was the determining factor in the growth of the business. Working with a networking group can help its members generate better sales leads and solve problems with more efficiency.
Sharing ideas is also an important aspect and making improvements to one self. Your colleagues will help re-energize you when running your own business seems too much. With your team to rely on you can accomplish more in less time and you’ll probably have a lot more fun doing it and in addition, you’ll have more motivation to work on self improvement when you finally understand that you’re not in this alone.
1. Nothing you try to accomplish ever turns out right. You try to tackle a task and it turns into the worst thing ever.
2. You really believe that the majority of people dislike you and you are ugly.
3. You’re afraid to talk with other people because you fear that what you say might not make much sense and you feel swallowed up in a whirlpool of frustration.
Throw aside your beliefs that the world is closing in on you and get determined to have the things that you want because other people are not to blame for your misfortunes - others aren’t the issue, you are your own problem. From this moment on, begin the process of fixing your self esteem so think the right way and be determined to win and succeed is exactly what you’ll do.
Just remember that success can’t come easily and that is why determination is an essential part of it.
Many times, a person nearly achieves success, then something happens and they throw their dreams aside and too soon they are a great candidate to low self esteem improvement. Without a positive image of yourself, your life will be rather boring so you need to think differently and make a true effort to become exactly what you want to be.
You need to make the decision whether to remain in a miserable state with a lack of self belief or boost your self esteem and develop a high self esteem with good character and self image.
The origin of low self esteem.
A low self esteem could start as early as childhood when children are taught that they have no use. Their self confidence is eroded and they succumb to the idea that they will never succeed in anything that they do so they get picked on, laughed at, pushed around, called names and treated with disdain, it’s no wonder they ended up full of resentment.
If that was your experience, then it’s time to get rid of that mindset and do self esteem improvement. Do some research on the lives of successful people and you will soon discover that a lot of them had a such a low self image that they could not even complete an elementary education. Many of them have gotten past this to improve their attitude and were willing to do whatever it took and a lot of them turned into some of the greatest people that ever stepped on earth.
Low self esteem has never actually helped anyone else and it sure will not help you because all it can do for you, is plunge you into depression, anger, grudge, fear and all the other negativity that is born from it.
Re-organize your way of thinking and take control of your mind because you have to truly believe that you are worth much more than you actually believe or you’ll stay at the foot of the ladder of success and never even test your weight on the first rung.
Don’t ruin your life with feelings of inadequacies, rather, try to think of ways to improve who you are because success already belongs to you, just grab it, and it’s yours.
