The subconscious mind plays a dominant role in positive thinking without allowing us any instant awareness of that fact. The subconscious can house both positive and negative thoughts and feelings and influence those things we are aware of without letting us understand why. We simply know that this is how we feel about something even though we don’t readily know why we feel that way.

Despite the fact that the subconscious mind contains negative influences, you can alter these failure formulas by making positive affirmations through repeated self talk. Enough repetitive, positive self talk can ‘rewire’ the subconscious as a ‘healing process’ that affects the balance between negative and positive feelings to lean more toward the realistic positive side. This does away with hidden emotional conflicts and permits your conscious mind to embrace the healthier positive solutions available to you.

Please keep in mind that all negative thoughts, feelings and emotions are not necessarily bad. In some instances, they are generated as protective measures used to avoid rejection, disappointment, hurt, fear, shock and other unpleasant states of mind. There are, after all, things that some people just prefer not to face. However, even these unpleasant thoughts can be modified with adequate and conscious self talk that convinces you that the rewards will be worth the emotional risk. This is well evidenced by the fact that many of the emotional insecurities that plague us as teenagers disappear when we reach adulthood. In this case, they are tempered by life experiences as we mature and get a grip on realities so that fears are overcome.

In reality, going through your working and personal life with predominantly negative feelings and attitudes is self defeating. It makes you unpleasant to be around and on a lower rung for upward job mobility at the office. If you send out negative vibes, you can expect negative responses. Conversely, if you have a bright, positive outlook, the people around you sense that and relate to you in a similar way. This is especially important in your day-to-day dealings in your personal relationships and in business with colleagues, clients or customers. The only place where negative and positives attract is with permanent magnets, not relationships.

When you use positive thinking and self talk enough, the existing negative majority in your subconscious will be altered. Positivity becomes the predominant habit pattern that influences your attitudes just as negativity had formerly done. That’s the power of positive thinking and the manner in which it can influence the subconscious mind in human beings.

This is the first and only “bitesized” guide to the works that have captured the imagination of millions and inspired readers everywhere to follow their dreams.

There are many people who swear by hypnosis and even more who either believe they cannot be hypnotized or even that hypnosis is a scam that doesn’t really work. Myths about the process abound in modern society. However in reality, hypnosis does work as evidenced by the fact that many psychiatrists, who are medical doctors specializing in the human mind, use it quite effectively to help patient’s recover histories from their subconscious minds that they are not consciously aware of.

Not only does hypnosis prove effective when administered by a professional, self hypnosis is also possible for some individuals. In either case, the process can be extremely helpful to aid people in adopting positive thinking by making them aware of the negative ideas in their subconscious minds and even in replacing them with positive alternatives.

A big part of positive thinking is self confidence. Many of us lose a lot of that as we progress along the road of life. Since hypnosis helps you imagine yourself the way that you’d like to be, it can be a valuable tool for re-building lost self confidence and self esteem by aiding you to internalize the change and seeing it as more believable.

Positive thinking advocates have always stressed the extreme importance of positive self talk. In reality, the continual conscious repetition of positive affirmations, images or messages will, eventually, filter down to the subconscious mind. This is actually auto-suggestion or a form of self hypnosis even if you are not aware of it. Self hypnosis even helps to relax the mind and take it away from the outer world and it’s tensions, which helps easy flow of positive ideas. That’s one reason why repeating positive statements and ideas frequently is truly one of the most important ways to change from a negative to a positive mindset over time.

Hypnosis has been used for a long time to help people overcome seemingly-impossible conditioning. It has aided people to quit smoking when all else failed; it has helped athletes gain the confidence they lacked to be star performers and, perhaps most important of all, it has been used successfully to help people overcome fears and phobias.

There is a great deal of good information on learning about hypnosis available on the Internet and much of it is low cost or free. If you are experiencing difficulty in changing your mindset from negative to positive with self talk and positive affirmations alone, hypnosis might just be the answer.

This is a wonderful book for strengthening our effective individual leadership skills through self-confrontation, self-discovery, and self-authenticity. Leaders and leadership are concepts that we deal with in many areas. In the global setting, we’re aware of different types of political systems, each with its own kind of leader/leaders. The corporate world, school systems, and families are all governed by leaders. Some we recognize as able and effective leaders, and others we might view as monsters. Recognizing that leadership is basic to life and that we’re all involved either as leaders or followers, our happiness depends on how well we understand the playing field. The author addresses the topic from several perspectives. The introduction tells us immediately that we’re complex persons with many facets to our person and we need courage and openness to explore who we really are. The author tells us that “A call to self-authenticity is not a call for perfection but a call for self-discovery and growth toward identifying with your essence.” He explains the terms of self and leadership. He chooses to view personality as the distinctive traits or characteristics of mind and behavior that distinguishes a person enduring over time. These characteristics include genetic traits and qualities, the person’s nurture and the choices made from nurture influences. Then to set the stage for his major premises he gives an expose of “Leadership Theories” with their implications. Interconnections are made with ideologies and approaches to leadership. Since much of what Patrick has to say is based on an understanding of personality characteristics, he relies on the enneagram to help the reader understand himself/herself and the different ways others may look at issues depending on their own nature, nurture, and experience. Since leadership does not depend only on the leader but also on the followers, an insight into all personalities is necessary. This is done very well using a link to the Enneagram Institute web site. Those not already versed in the enneagram can easily become familiar with it and the major personality types it proposes. The inclusion of a spiritual dimension to the person adds components sometimes overlooked. Several definitions are given for the word spirit. All point to an intangible quality within the person. It is the essence that makes the person or group who they are and gives them meaning. This brings the reader right back to “a call to self-discovery and growth identifying with our essence.” I think this is really a wonderful book. Following its invitation, one can gradually open oneself layer by layer, thus increasing one’s authenticity. In my opinion, Patrick has accomplished his purpose. Colleen T. Fogarty, OP, PhD

There are games for positive thinking available for both adults and for children. Not all of these games are marketed exclusively under the banner of positive thinking, but regardless of their ‘category, deal with some elements that match up with positive thinking learning essentials. These games are really essential to understand whether you think positively or negatively and to what extent. They are a useful tool also to get some insight into what kind of a person you really are.

Games for business-based training use activities that remove people from their usual work environment and create brand new opportunities to experience achievement, winning, team work and personal development that are normally unavailable in their current jobs. Learning to experience these positive situations permit the conscious and subconscious visualization of the success and achievement they must have to raise their sights, set new and more positive goals and objectives and boost their motivation. Many of these are role-playing games and exercises that are truly effective for visualization and motivation. Some negative people don’t like role playing games that take them out of their accepted mindset, so these games help them with the shift.

Personal development games are designed to help the players gain insight into their thought processes and analyze whether they are negative or positive. They remind people about how powerful positive thinking can be and the importance of being positive toward others. There are also in-class exercise games that teach clinical psychology with broad applicability to self-insight and group dynamics activity.

Games for young children recognize that positive thinking is best begun when minds are young and in the formative stage. Some typical game titles include Dr. Playwell’s Sure I Can Game; Positive Thinking Game and Dr. Playwell’s Positive Thinking Card Game. The latter is interesting in that it teaches children four vital positive thinking skills of recognizing self-defeating statements, changing negative thoughts to positive thoughts, seeing positive ways to cope with problems and how to use positive self-talk. These games are priced from $22 to $55 each. Although these might seem to be a bit expensive at the first thought, but this is a very small price to pay for a positive and healthy life.

Games about positive thinking can be effective training tools for the very young and adults alike. After all you are never too young or old o play a game, especially if it helps to live better life.
